How to Start an
Office Cleaning Business from Home
Did you ever wonder why people who insist on cleanliness and
orderly homes and office are referred to as neat FREAKS? Why is it that the
people who enjoy a relaxed, less than organized household aren't the freaks?
At any rate… if you enjoy, or can even merely tolerate cleaning, and do a
decent job with the task – there's a business waiting for you.
Office cleaning is a job that could be completed during off hours, early
mornings or late evenings. This works well for some, when a spouse is home to
watch the children. If you prefer to work days while the children are in
school, there is plenty of work to fit that schedule.
To start an office cleaning business you'll need some basic supplies – vacuum
cleaner, dust mops, broom, window cleaner, sanitizer, and some rubber or latex
gloves. You'll also need business cards and flyers describing your services.
Since your clients will be local offices, you are best to drop off a media kit
consisting of a letter describing your experience and services offered. Also
leave them with a couple of business cards – never just one. Include a
discount coupon and maybe a small promo item like a magnet; then follow-up a
week later to schedule their first cleaning.
A downside might be that you'll need to be, or should be, bonded and insured.
Clients want to know that you're not going to go into their office and steal
from them. You may also face stiff competition from larger companies who
already have a brunt of the business.
Don't let that discourage you. Price yourself competitively. Perhaps offer to
clean their office for free – once. If you want to make this business work, it
will. You're limited only by your dreams.
